From sniffing out bomb threats in public places to assisting persons with disabilities as part of their day-to-day tasks, dogs continue to prove how they are truly worthy of the “man’s best friend” title. And in this particular case, these canines prove just how loyal they are to their owner–even putting themselves in harm’s way just so that their beloved human can escape danger.
American news channel nbc4i reports that a woman was saved from her ex-boyfriend’s attack—thanks to the courageous efforts of her pet pit bulls.
According to the report last February 13, the woman let her 58-year-old ex-boyfriend Lonnie Hollingsworth into her residence. After talking for a while, the former couple got into an argument which led to Hollingsworth holding the woman at knifepoint and demanding money. Her pet pit bulls then rushed to her aid and attacked her ex.
Hollingsworth stabbed the dogs in defense and the canines were forced to retreat into another room. After the woman gave Hollingsworth money, her pet dogs came back and once again, attacked Hollingsworth with a pot–thereby, giving her enough time to flee the scene.
Thanks to the dogs’ protective instinct over their owner, the woman suffered only minor injuries.
Hollingsworth, on the other hand, is currently facing charges for aggravated robbery.
This incident only further proves that a dog’s love is boundless. How can we even attempt to deserve their love?
