SENTINEL, the Science and Technology Editors’ League of the Philippines, will hold SENTX 2019: Contextualizing Science Journalism in the Philippine Setting, a two-day seminar-workshop, at the NCPAG Assembly Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman on September 7-8, 2019 (Saturday to Sunday). This event is in partnership with Strawberry Foods Corporation, with INQPOP!, INQUIRER.net and WhenInManila.com as media partners.
As the first and only alliance of science and technology (S&T)-oriented high school and college publications, SENTINEL aims to unite said publications for the development of local S&T and for genuine industrialization. In line with this, SENTX 2019 will feature discussions and activities on the proper orientation of viewing science journalism as a transformative force in nation-building, workshops on science journalism, as well as talks on the current state of S&T, particularly in the Philippine setting.
Among the various speakers are Timothy James Dimacali, former GMA News Online Science and Technology Editor, Mikael Francisco, Editor-in-Chief of Flipscience.net, Maria Diosa Labiste, PhD, from the Department of Journalism in UP Diliman, and John Reczon Calay, former Managing Editor of the Philippine Collegian.
This event is open to all high school and college students. Registration fee is PHP 500 for public schools and Php 750 for private schools without accommodations and food. Php 150 will be added to include food, and Php 800 for accommodations. The registration fees must be paid in full before accommodations are confirmed.
