Mustard music presents its latest singing: 19 year-old hip-hop artist Joey Tha Boy. For several years, Joey has been honing his craft of songwriting, calling it a passion where he could “express all [his] thoughts and emotions enjoyably.” From then on, his persona of Joey Tha Boy was born, carrying his name, and a goal to continue having the raw passion for music that he has at this young age. Joey has since released his own music and performed at gigs around schools in Metro Manila until being signed by mustard.
He describes his style of hip-hop as “boomtrap” – a mixture of old school boom bap and newer trap in an effort to what “revive a dying breed of lyricists as hip hop evolves,” as he describes it himself. His musical influences include MF DOOM, Mac Miller, Logic, Capital STEEZ, and Joey Bada$$.
“Fantasy,” his first track under mustard invigorates this yearning as Joey tackles the idea of “fantasizing about [his] ideal girl, while helping her become a better person alongside [him].” The song also features Universal Records singer-songwriter Paolo Sandejas, who contributes his signature chill vibes to the track. The two have been longtime friends, with their musical inclination starting at almost the same time, so this collaboration – with Paolo singing and co-writing, and Joey rapping and producing has been a long time coming. The infectious track, with its new vibe and lyrical flavor will surely be playlist worthy to audiences far and wide.
