Siklab Pilipinas leads next batch of Filipino delegate to the UN Youth Assembly

In its pursuit of empowering the Filipino youth, Siklab Pilipinas held its two-day pre-departure event for the small group of Filipino delegates who will be attending the 22nd Session of the Youth Assembly at the United Nations. Siklab officers, volunteers, and delegates alike participated in the various activities conducted by partner organizations that emphasized the significance and power of youth leadership and social entrepreneurship.

The Youth Assembly (YA) is one of the largest gathering of change-makers, social innovators, advocates, and leaders in New York, all guided by the overarching principle of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. With this season’s theme, “Breaking New Grounds for Sustainable Development,” the Youth Assembly explores cross-cutting issues and solutions for sustainable development in the social, economic, and environmental dimensions and signals a growing momentum of youth leadership and participation in the global movement for sustainable development.

Since 2016, Siklab Pilipinas has sent over 180 Filipino youth to take part in this prestigious event. As the official delegation partner of the Youth Assembly in the Philippines, Siklab Pilipinas held pre-departure seminar on August 3-4, 2018, which includes a half-day lecture series featuring Bernadette Fernando and Mika Ranjo of the National Youth Commission (NYC) on the organization’s mission and relevance to Philippine youth, and a tour of the Villar SIPAG farm in Las Piñas, where delegates were educated on the foundation’s projects for impoverished communities.

The next day’s activities kicked off with a farm tour and social enterprise demo at the Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm in Bulacan. There, the delegates learned about the multiple social ventures that form the backbone of the community’s education and livelihood, such as the School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED), Plush and Play, Bayani Brew, and Ambension Silk Enterprise. The two-day activity culminated in a formal gala night co-presented by Tanduay and Tang, celebrating the journey of the organization and the current Youth Assembly delegation. Present at the celebration were NYC Regional Youth Development Division Chief Melanio Santella, Siklab officers and members, and Youth Assembly alumni.

About the Organization:
