WATCH: This is what the world map sounds when played on a piano

Ever wanted to hear what the world sounds like on a piano?

A video of a “musical world map” recently resurfaced and went viral on Twitter. And if the earth would have its own musical score, this is what it would probably sound like.

Wait ‘til it hits Africa!

The masterpiece was created and originally uploaded on YouTube by John Keats last February 2017. The musical world map is an example of a “MIDI art” or an illustration of MIDI compositions “through a careful arrangement of color-coded musical blocks.” MIDI or Musical Instrument Digital Interface is basically a sequence programming protocol that allows different pieces of musical equipment like synthesizers, controllers, and computers to communicate with one another.

Creating MIDI Art or drawing pictures through music has been quite popular on YouTube over the years. MIDI Art involves an elaborate process of tracing the outlines of your chosen picture or drawing them freehand through digital audio workstation programs like DAW piano roll editor. The challenge, however, is to come up with melodies and harmonies that will fit to the overall shape of the picture.

Here are some of our favorite MIDI art/Synthesias:
