It is undeniable that the popularity of Korean Dramas or also known as “Koreanovelas” got most teenagers swooning and staying up all night just to binge-watch them. While it is true that the reason we got hooked is because of our jaw-dropping “oppa” as the lead actors to give “kilig” vibes in their mushy scenes making us want to be in the lead actress’ shoes. But our “fangirling” shouldn’t stop us from finding other good quality shows to watch even if our “oppa” aren’t the featured actors or not included in the cast.

So if you ever feel like watching other Korean dramas which aren’t mainstream or known for its famous actors and actresses yet still provides an engaging story and surprising plot twists and turns, let’s start our countdown with these 5 underrated korean dramas you must watch now!

5. REPLY 1988 or ANSWER ME 1988 (2015)

Ever wonder how it feels to experience the same situation twice? This Korean drama got it all in stored for you! The story revolves around the lives and growing up years of five childhood friends living on the same street enjoying their teenage lives by doing the typical things teenagers do during that time when technology hasn’t taken an important part in the world. This drama will show the importance of enjoying your youth. The drama’s lead casts are Hyeri, Ryoo Joon- Yeol, Ko Gyung- Pyo, Lee Dong Hwi, and Park Bo-Gum.

4. DATING AGENCY: CYRANO (2013)

Dreaming of experiencing a blind date and doing your “#RelationshipGoals”? This drama deserves all the love it gives to its characters to also be reciprocated by its viewers. You might probably want to watch this Korean drama. This is a contemporary drama that was based on 2010’s hit film Cyrano Agency starring Lee Jong-Hyuk, Sooyoung and Lee Chun-Hee. The plot mainly focuses on a matchmaker team that arrange and plans romantic scenarios for their clients and helps them in resolving their love life problems as they believe when it comes to love, it should not have any restrictions. This drama showcase the art of acting and romance and as to what extent does the characters are willing to do in order to save their theatre.

3. CHICAGO TYPEWRITER (2017)

If you want a drama that will give you a glimpse of how it is like to live on a certain time and give you that some level of “feels.” This drama is for you! Chicago Typewriter is a South Korean television series which follows the lives of writers who lived during the Japanese Occupation in Korea in the 1930s. The plot also includes time travelling in the past focusing on the character who is destined to meet again the people who may have gone wrong in the past. Yoo Ah-in, Im Soo-jung and Go Kyung-pyo are the main actors of this television series.

2. LIAR GAME (2014)

How will a naive, innocent Nam Da Jung survive in a world where lies, deception and mockery are being rewarded? This television series is based on a Japanese manga of the same title starring Kim So-eun, Lee Sang-yoon and Shin Sung-rok. The plot basically focuses on the life of an honest yet gullible girl who wishes to pay her father’s debt by joining and participating in a game show where each contestants have their chance to win the prize of 10 billion won and those contestants who will be able to cheat the other wins the prize.

If you think you know what to expect, this Korean medical crime drama series will prove you wrong. Probably you are thinking of dead bodies, blood, medical surgeries, murder cases and the likes. Two forensic doctors Go Da-Kyung played by Kim Ah-Joong and Yoon Ji-Hoon played by Park Shin-Yang are in search for answers to identify the murderers of each dead bodies they handle for autopsy based from the keen medical observations on the different parts of the victim’s body which will lead to case closed episodes. Sounds interesting, right? Go watch it and see it for yourself!
