Actress Emma Heming Willis shares a reminder: ‘Caregivers need care, too’

Posted on Instagram last March 11, CEO and wellness entrepreneur Emma Heming highlights the importance of also looking out for caretakers.

With her own journey in supporting her husband, actor Bruce Willis, she spoke up on her stance.

Amid the tragic passing of spouses Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa, reports state that Arakawa, who was the ailing actor’s caretaker, died a week before Hackman. Their bodies remained undiscovered for days in their Santa Fe home.

Emma takes this event as a regard to “think of this broader story, and that is that caregivers need care too.” She further expresses that they are just as vital and need their own support systems showing up for them to continue showing up as well for “their person.”

Emma’s video goes on to communicate that there is a common misconception that caregivers “have got it figured out,” and she opposes this idea, voicing, “I don’t subscribe to that.” She concluded by reiterating, “I think that we need to be showing up for them so that they can continue to show up for their person.”

In March 2022, it was made public that her husband, actor Bruce Willis, was diagnosed with aphasia, which later progressed to a more specific condition known as frontotemporal dementia (FTD). This may have strengthened Emma’s dedication to advocating for healthcare issues, particularly her concern for personal care assistants.

Reverting to Emma’s video, users took the time to support her stance, noting their own personal experiences in the comment section and advocating the very cause raised on looking out for caregivers. Emma posted another official photo today to strengthen her message, encouraging others to “pass it on.”
