Gypsy Rose Blanchard shares how she plans to tell her daughter about her mother

33-year-old Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who had been convicted of murdering her own mother, spoke up in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight after being asked how much she would tell her daughter Aurora about her grandmother.

The now mother to a newborn girl replied, “I knew my future kids were gonna have to be told about it someday, and I think we’re going to have to enlist the help of a child therapist (uhm) at that point in time.”

Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison for participating in the homicide of her abusive mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, alongside her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn. She was released in December 2023 after serving just seven years behind bars upon being granted parole.

With her docuseries, “Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up,” returning back on air for a second season, Blanchard stated she’s come back to show more of her life despite the struggle in the attention she receives, that “It’s not for the haters– it’s not for the scrutiny. It’s for the people that have cheered me on even before I got out of prison.” She believed that that community of support has welcomed her with open arms and wants to maintain that connection as she continues to learn and thrive through life.

Reflecting on her journey into parenthood and the inevitable revelation of her past, Gypsy acknowledged that her daughter may one day encounter another child or parent who brings up her widely known case. Taking full accountability for protecting her daughter, she noted, “We want to be the ones that kind of break the news to her first,” referring to herself and the child’s father, Ken Urker. Blanchard added, “We’re going to make sure that it’s as delicate as possible.”

Viewers had mixed reactions, but it was notable that she still had the support of many.

With her memoir, “My Time to Stand,” she stated that she would use this as a means to help get her story across. Gypsy closes off on the topic declaring, “This is how I want you (Aurora) to know my story. This is how you can learn about what happened to your mama.”
