‘It’s Showtime’ contestant shocks Filipino internet after admitting unfamiliarity with COMELEC

A contestant in a segment of the noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ admitted to being unfamiliar with COMELEC (Commission on Elections).

In a recent episode of the show, host Vice Ganda asked the contestant what her message to the government organization was, to which she replied, “Sorry po, hindi po ako masyadong knowledgeable about sa COMELEC [I’m sorry, I am not that knowledgeable about the COMELEC].”

This shocked the hosts, with Vice Ganda saying, “That is bothersome.” The hosts then proceeded to explain COMELEC’s role to the contestant.

Upon seeing the segment, social media users took to social media to express their disbelief over the contestant’s answer.

This is what worries us the most, that our newsfeed is the onlu one that dictates the information that we can get].”

Another user wrote, “I’m not trying to start a ‘sa panahon namin’ [in our time] conversation ha but this is truly bothersome. How does a 20-year old not know the role of Comelec? In this day and age of the internet and you still don’t know? Like, are you not bothered by the things around you for you to be curious?”

A third user wrote, “This is just too hard to watch. Voting age ka na, please sa mga kabataan jan. Please, please learn about the society. Do yourself a favor; learn something new every day. Ok mag TikTok or mag SNS, pero [but] please increase your knowledge that will be valuable in the future. Thank you.”

More social media users have aired their disappointment with some of them pointing out that everyone should be more aware of what’s happening around the country especially when it comes to government matters.
