Social media users call out vlogger Rosmar Tan for ‘weird flex’ amid Kristine onslaught

Now, that’s a weird flex.

Rosemar Tan, known for being a content creator/vlogger and entrepreneur, is currently under fire for a post she made on social media in light of tropical storm Kristine hitting parts of the Philippines.

In a now deleted post on Facebook, she wrote, “Ang hirap isipin na habang kami naka higa sa malambot na kama, kagigising lang at naka aircon, ang daming bata, matanda na di na alam paano ililigtas sarili sa Bicol dahil sa baha at bagyo [It’s hard to think that while we are lying in a soft bed, just waking up with an air conditioner, there are many children and adults who don’t know how to save themselves in Bicol because of the flood and typhoon.]”

Although some social media users asked the vlogger for assistance in the comments, others expressed their disappointment, pointing out that she should use her platform to help people rather than bragging about her privileges.

One user wrote, “Essay yarn? The intro is too long Rosemarie Tan Pamulaklakin , you’re bragging again. Use your platform to help, not to brag or to be jealous. Remember, you’re fighting for Councilor, they need to see how you act].”

Another user wrote, “Alam mo hindi mo kailangan pa isama yung nakahiga kayo sa malambot na kama at naka aircon kasi walang may pakialam. Napaka insensitive mo at self-righteous mo [You know you don’t even have to include when you are lying in a soft bed and in an air conditioner because no one cares. You are so insensitive and self-righteous].”

Do you really need to flex lying on a soft bed with aircon, while looking at people who are in crisis and are struggling to live]? Shame on you!,” a third user wrote.

[I’m sorry if you think what I posted is wrong but I don’t have the intention like what you think. I’m just worried about the grandparents in the Bicol Area right now. Again, I’m sorry. And as we continue to pray that the rain subsides and the typhoon stops].”

Just last October 1, Tan filed her certificate of candidacy to run for councilor in the first district of Manila with the tagline:

In times like these, people—especially those with a wide reach and platform—should think before posting anything that might be insensitive, particularly when addressing sensitive subjects.
