A statement made by singer-songwriter Eric Benét has resurfaced online that opened the floodgates for a very important conversation.
Benét made a tweet back in 2020 about birth control which reads, “Theoretically a man could impregnate 4 women per day per year (1460 pregnancies). A woman can give birth only once a year. If ‘birth control’ was the objective…science created the pill for the wrong gender.”

Although this tweet was made four years ago, this said the comment he made still seems relevant in our current time.
Social media users took to it online to share their thoughts about the singer’s opinion on the matter.
One user wrote, “He is not wrong. I completely agree with his statement. Women are the ones who carry the baby for 9 months. We, women, could only get conceived with a man. I don’t think it would be too sinful for a man to take contraception than for a woman to abort babies.”
“True. Women make many sacrifices when it comes to reproductive health and contraception. Often, they are the ones responsible for using birth control, even though it should be a joint decision. That’s why it’s important to have more options for men, such as new types of male contraceptives, to share the responsibility in family planning. Having more equal responsibility can help not only women’s health but also lead to better relationships and understanding of reproductive health issues,” another user wrote.
A third user wrote, “This convo is so deep. It’s 2024 there definitely should be birth control created for men. And this may sound crazy, but they should probably force deadbeat dads to go on birth control after a certain number of kids.”
More social media users have expressed their opinion pointing out that it’s time to consider men having more options for men in terms of birth control.
Conversations like these should not be ignored and must be treated with the utmost importance, as they can impact everyone, regardless of gender.
