The curtains have closed on yet another amazing event of showcasing the limitless applications of Geomatics in society.
Held at the University of the Philippines Diliman on April 28-29, 2024, the National Geodetic Engineering Summit x Geodetic Engineering Student Conference (NatGES x GESC) 2024, with a theme of “GeoArcana: Unearthing the Limitless Breakthroughs in Geomatics”, has successfully gathered more than 500 Geodetic Engineering students, faculty members, and professionals across the country to discuss the various facets of the Geodetic Engineering field.
The GESC, in its 16th year, comprised talks by Geodetic Engineering professionals on current breakthroughs and trends in the field of Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Surveying. It also encompassed demonstrations of the latest advancements, a quiz bee, a mapping competition among participating schools, and a social night event that facilitated students in building connections with their peers.
The NatGES, inaugurated just last year, has also triumphantly discussed the foresights and opportunities within the discipline. The event explored the potential advancements of the field through talks and a research colloquium, the challenges it may face over time, and the areas for growth and innovation focusing on how it can be used as a tool to improve every individual’s life within the country and around the globe. Additionally, the event equipped the students with updated knowledge regarding the career prospects in Geodetic Engineering field, and fostered their connection with professionals as it opened discussions from both parties.
The NatGES x GESC 2024 has been a significant achievement in propelling the field of Geodetic Engineering forward. It provided a rich and engaging experience for all participants, facilitating substantial exchange of knowledge, experiential learning, and professional networking. Despite serving as a dynamic platform for exploring new frontiers and breaking the boundaries of the discipline, it remains grounded with the thought of making the world a better place. The field of Geomatics has tremendously contributed to society inland, in water, and in air. As its application continues to be explored, our hope remains for the advancement of the field alongside the betterment of society. As the event concluded, the insights gained, and connections forged through this 2-day event will undoubtedly move Geodetic Engineering students and professionals to appreciate the field, further advance it and use this advancement to improve the world.
With the success of the event, heartfelt gratitude is thereby extended to the attendees, organizers and most importantly, sponsors. For more details about the event, please visit the UP Geodetic Engineering Club Facebook page.
