Armi Millare ups the ante and releases her sonically rich new single ‘Whatever’

Last year, iconic singer/songwriter ARMI MILLARE re-ignited her passion as a solo artist and performer. This 2024, it’s a safe bet that loyal followers will be witness to the acclaimed artist rediscovering her most-confident stride amidst her continuing evolution.

And listeners will undoubtedly find that her latest single “Whatever” is proof that things can only get better from hereon.

Featuring Millare’s trademark penchant for effectively translating moods into sound and interpreting sometimes-complicated emotions into words, “Whatever” is yet another original piece that transcends the practice of finely crafting sonic layers and thoughts – and enters the realm of timeless personal anthems for those who are serious about what they listen to: especially for those who share an affinity for late 90s/2000s contemporary pop and R&B.

“It was the middle of fall, I shuttling between cities coming from Manila,” Millare begins to share, when asked about the mood and setting she was in when inspiration for the track hit. “Looking back, I thought my life was going to hold this kind of pace and I was willing to strike a deal with everyone that was part of the circus, to do whatever it took to make things work,” she continues, and adds: “Now I’m on the other side of [that] ‘whatever,’ where it just is what it is.”

When posed further about her creative process in writing music, the songwriter reveals: “I always see my body of work as a mirror to who I truly am, or who I can be too: sometimes in detail, others as vague and uncertain… it’s a skill to portray one moment consistently, one thought or feeling consistently; it’s like taking some time before you see a friend and telling them everything after you’ve recovered,” she divulges. “Rarely am I able to write as it happens – a part of me has to be able to step back and see the big picture.”

Released under Millare’s very own STOA Sound music production company and distributed by DaWorks, “Whatever” can now be streamed on all leading digital music stores and streaming sites. And while it is no secret that this, her previous single Roots” and the subsequent singles to be released are all part of an upcoming debut full-length entitled South Node, the artist claims that the current single does have a very special and unique place in her heart.

“I think if I heard this song somewhere else, I would definitely say I wish I wrote it… it’s one of my favorite tunes from the body of work: I’ve had so many moments listening to this song on my own, wondering when I would be ‘allowed’ to share this,” she claims, and ends, “when really, I only needed my [own] permission to walk free – and that time is now.”
