American rock band Fall Out Boy created new memories for their avid Filipino fans during their sold-out show in Manila after 10 years, which took place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, December 9.
Their show needs no opening act as they introduce themselves immediately by playing an exhilarating performance of “Love From The Other Side.” Afterward, the band sang the fiery “The Phoenix” with its impressive and crazy pyrotechnics as well as one of their hit singles “Sugar We’re Goin Down.”
Moreover, after the lively and thrilling intro segment, the Chicago-laden band proceeded to showcase a variety of performances from their mainstream smash hits, to fan favorites, and the ‘underrated’ ones. Among those songs are “Uma Thurman,” “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” “Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy,” “Heaven, Iowa,” and “Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet.” During the set of “Fake Out,” their fanbase then surprised their favorite band with a pink sea of lights.
One of the highlights of the entire concert was the band’s cover of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” originally performed by the legendary 70’s rock band Journey, in the middle part. Frontman Patrick Stump also played a melancholic and gentle piano medley of “What A Catch, Donnie.”
The audience from every seat was screaming, jumping, and headbanging to the quartet’s songs with their heart out word for word inside the venue which did not go unnoticed by Fall Out Boy’s bassist Pete Wentz. According to Wentz, the Manila show was the loudest show they played at, despite the city being second to the last of their 2023 tour. He also expressed how long it has been since they returned to the Philippines. It has been a decade since their last concert in Manila with their first one in 2007 and the second in 2023.
“I’m sorry it take so long to be here. It’s good to see everybody again. We missed the Philippines,” the lead vocalist said, declaring that the country’s crowd was the best audience in their whole tour.
“A lot of you probably know that I married to a Filipino family. I got a Barong. It means a lot to me to be here and it’s amazing you guys are the best audience in this entire tour easily,” he added.
In addition, the band hinted throughout that they would return to the Philippines.
In the second half of the show, the band further delved into their acclaimed discography by singing “Save Rock and Roll,” “Crazy Train,” “Dance, Dance,” “Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year,” and “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up).”
Patrick, Pete, Andy, and Joe concluded the evening by blasting their renowned songs “Thnks fr th Mmrs,” “Centuries,” and “Saturday.”
