Organizers of GVF 2023 orders ‘The 1975’ to pay S$3.6 million following band’s controversy

Future Sound Asia, the organizers of the Good Vibes Festival 2023 in Malaysia, are providing The 1975 a week to pay about £2 million (S$3.6 million) (P150.4 million) in damages.

This comes after frontman Matty Healy called the Malaysian government a ‘bunch of f—-ng r—-rds’ and then kissed his bandmate – a somewhat controversial and prohibited act in that country, as per Malay Mail report.

A cancellation for the music festival took effect following the controversial act.

David Mathew, the music festival organizer’s legal representative, told Malay Mail that they gave the English pop-rock band a Letter of Claim dated August 7, 2023. It demanded that they should ‘admit their liability’ and pay the said amount within a week.

According to Mathew, the organizer claims that the band did intend to breach their pre-show contract that states that the latter would ‘adhere to all local guidelines and regulations’ during the show.

If the band fails to pay their liability in damages for the festival, the organizers will proceed to file legal charges in the Court of England.
