Here’s what NewJeans have been up to while preparing for their July comeback

NewJeans has been on everyone’s lips since their first day on the job, and they don’t seem to be stopping their pace any time soon. Even with their July comeback coming soon, the 5-member girl group from HYBE’s subsidiary label ADOR has kept themselves booked and busy through their different promotional activities, endorsements, and other things in between.

Since their surprise debut last July 2022, NewJeans has been an unstoppable force in the K-Pop industry. With their self-titled debut EP with hit after hit after hit, and their second EP being the same, it’s no doubt that these girls are talented and deserving of their fame. With their name a double entendre and witty wordplay on “new genes”—with jeans being a timeless fashion staple, and is a manifestation of the group’s intention to usher a new generation of pop music and a timeless image of themselves.

Their impact in the K-Pop industry paved the way for them to be called a “mega blue chip” in the advertising industry, and all members have become brand ambassadors for some of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world—Hanni for Gucci and Armani Beauty, Hyein for Louis Vuitton, Danielle for Burberry and YSL Beauty, Minji for Chanel Korea, and Haerin for Dior.

And their endorsements, activities, and achievements do not stop there; here are some (if not all) of the things NewJeans has done for the past few months while gearing up for their highly anticipated July comeback:

NewJeans’ Collaboration with Coca-Cola

Ne Jeans

Back in March of this year, NewJeans was selected to be the newest global ambassador for Coca Cola and were to take part in the Coca-Cola Zero campaign in South Korea. In their announcement, ADOR said that “Both NewJeans and Coca-Cola Zero have a distinctive charm that can’t be easily emulated by just anyone. We’re looking forward to the unique synergy that will be created by the two of them coming together.”

They also released the collab single, “Zero” last April 3, 2023.

Faces of Seoul Fashion Week 2023

For this year’s Seoul Fashion Week, NewJeans had been appointed as the ambassadors for the global fashion phenomenon. They were also the first K-Pop group to ever have been chosen to represent SFW.

The group was seen sporting modern utilitarian-inspired looks, and all eyes were on them during the entirety of the event.

Solo magazine shoots for Hyein and Danielle as ambassadors of luxury fashion brands

NewJeans’ Hyein graced Harper’s Bazaar’s May 2023 issue while dolled up in Louis Vuitton, along with Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and TWICE’s Nayeon. She is the youngest Korean model to ever grace the cover of the renowned magazine, and is part of her promotions as Louis Vuitton’s ambassador.

In her pictorial and interview, Hyein shared her love and affection towards her members and detailed how each of the members had been taking care of her. “I talk to the members the most. We spend a lot of time together and we’re always in a similar situation, so when something comes up and I talk to them, they can relate and sympathize with me well. They’re similarly kind and gentle but it’s amazing how they each sympathize [with me] in their own ways.”

Danielle DazedNewJeans’ Danielle had also recently had a pictorial with Burberry for Dazed Korea. Danielle is the global ambassador for the luxury British fashion house Burberry and had talked about her relationship with the brand. She said that the brand “overlaps with [her] childhood memories.”

Danielle recounted that time when she and her older sister went through their mother and grandmother’s closet, wore their clothes and pretended to walk down the runway. She also recalled how her grandmother’s Burberry coat was the one she liked the most, and always thought that that coat was “cool and elegant.”

Danielle also shared her dreams, saying that when she was younger, she had dreamt of “living a life where [I] only do happy and enjoyable things. [I] believe that with NewJeans, [I’m] living out the teen years I dreamt of.”

Gold House’s 2023 A100 List of Most Impactful Asians

Gold House, a non-profit organization promoting the interests of Asian and Pacific Islander diaspora in the United States, announced their A100 List of the most impact Asians and Asian American & Pacific Islanders last May 1, 2023, including NewJeans under the entertainment and media category.

Gold House had included the rookie girl group after seeing their rapid growth and success within a year since their debut last August 2022, “becoming the first K-Pop band to achieve the million-seller milestone with its debut album.”

Broke the Guinness World Record for Fastest K-Pop Act to Reach 1Billion Streams on Spotify

Yup, in just less than a year in their debut, NewJeans had set a new Guinness World Record!

The global record reference brand awarded the rookie K-Pop group their first record after they became the fastest K-Pop artist to ever reach 1 Billion streams on Spotify. NewJeans only took 219 days to break the record.

At the time, the 5-member girl group only had six songs available on Spotify: the four singles from their self-titled debut EP, “Attention,” “Hype Boy,” “Cookie,” and “Hurt”, and their 2 songs from their first single album ‘OMG’, “Ditto,” and “OMG.”

NewJeans’ Danielle stint as the Korean dub version for “The Little Mermaid” film

NewJeans’ Danielle was cast by Walt Disney Company Korea to become the voice of Ariel for the Korean dubbed version of the 2023 movie “The Little Mermaid”.

On May 12, 2023, Walt Disney Company Korea conveyed their reasons for choosing the 18-year-old rookie saying, “We expect that Danielle, who is similar in age with and whose cheerful image resembles that of Ariel in the film, will bring out the charm of teenage girl Ariel who is bubbly and full of curiosity.”

On May 17, 2023, Danielle’s rendition of “Part of Your World” was released.

TIME Magazine’s “Next Generation Leaders” List for 2023

Time mag

Last May 23, 2023, TIME Magazine had announced their latest list of “Next Generation Leaders” for the year and highlighted up and coming stars who are guiding the way to a better future, and named K-Pop group NewJeans alongside other renowned stars like actress Florence Pugh, DJ Bizarrap, and many others.

On choosing NewJeans, the world-famous magazine wrote, “A year ago, no one knew who NewJeans was. But since it dropped its first music video in August 2022, the nascent K-Pop girl group—managed by the record label ADOR, a subsidiary of the South Korean entertainment behemoth HYBE, which launched boyband BTS to international acclaim—has already reached global milestones even faster than its more senior counterparts in the industry.”

They also wrote, “Two of NewJeans’ singles stayed on the Billboard 100 for five weeks this year, and in March the band became the fastest Korean act ever to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify in just 219 days, despite having only released a handful of songs. This August, NewJeans will become the first K-Pop girl group to perform at Lollapalooza.”

Collaboration with McDonald’s and International campaign

NewJeans McDo

Last, but definitely not least, NewJeans has just partnered up with McDonald’s to launch a special campaign in 10 different regions in Asia—South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Vietnam.

McDonald’s officially announced this last May 26, 2023, with special advertisements helmed by NewJeans, a “NewJeans Chicken Dance Campaign” to sweep through Asia, and special packaging for specific chicken menu items.

We can keep saying “in just less than a year” to make ourselves clear, but we think we’ve done it enough. NewJeans is definitely the group to stan, and with some new music cooking up in the kitchen, they’ll surely cement themselves as a K-Pop staple sooner than we’ve expected.

Last June 19, 2023, ADOR announced that NewJeans’ upcoming mini album is titled, “Get Up,” and will be featuring six tracks including, “New Jeans, “ “Super Shy,” “ETA,” “Cool With You,” “Get Up,” and “ASAP”. All six tracks will be accompanied by their own music videos.

NewJeans’ first track in the EP, “New Jeans” will serve as the prologue and will be accompanied by a music video in collaboration with ‘THE POWERPUFF GIRLS’ in celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary. “Super Shy,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You” was also announced to be the album’s triple title songs.

“New Jeans” and “Super Shy” will be pre-released on July 7, while the EP “Get Up” will be released on July 21, 2023.
