Terms ‘cis,’ ‘cisgender’ considered as slurs on Twitter, according to Elon Musk

Twitter owner, billionaire, and future cage fight nemesis of Mark Zuckerberg Elon Musk said that the words “cis” and “cisgender” are considered slurs on the microblogging platform.

Musk replied to a Twitter user who claimed and said that he got messages from trans activists after he said in a tweet that he rejected the term “cis.”

“Yesterday, after posting a Tweet saying that I reject the word ‘cis’ and don’t wish to be called it, I receive a slew of messages from trans activists calling me “cissy” and telling me that I am ‘cis’ “whether or not I like it,” the user wrote in his tweet.

Musk said that repeated, targeted harassment against an account will give the harassing account temporary suspension at a minimum. “The words ‘cis’ or ‘cisgender’ are considered slurs on this platform,” Musk added in the tweet.

The terms are only two of the many gender-related words that people use today. By definition according to the glossary of LGBTQIA Resource Center, the term “cisgender” specifically refers to a gender identity that the society considers to correspond to the sex assigned at birth to someone.

Musk’s tweet later garnered attention and mixed reactions from many users of the platform.

J.K. Rowling, the person behind the world-renowned book of “Harry Potter” also expressed her thoughts about the term.

“’Cis’ is ideological language, signifying belief in the unfalsifiable concept of gender identity,” Rowling said in her tweet.

“You have a perfect right to believe in unprovable essences that may or may not match the sexed body, but the rest of us have a right to disagree, and to refuse to adopt your jargon,” she added.

It can be remembered that in 2019, the famous British author was criticized after she conveyed her support to a woman who had a history of giving remarks that were deemed as transphobic, according to a report.
