Lana Del Rey surprises fans with new song ahead of her 9th album release, sparks memes

The wait is over for Lana Del Rey’s fans because the multi-award-winning artist has just dropped her new single and announced her ninth studio album.

Yes, we have another track to add to our “lonely girl hours” playlist!

On December 7, Del Rey surprised her fans as she released her new song titled “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.” Written by Del Rey and Mike Hermosa, the nearly 5-minute track showcased the singer’s sultry voice and signature cinematic sound.

“Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd” is the lead single from her ninth studio album of the same name. Based on the album cover, “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd” will feature 16 tracks that will include collaborations with other artists, such as Jon Batiste, Bleachers, Father John Misty, Judah Smith, Tommy Genesis, and SYML.

Shortly after announcing her new album, Del Rey’s fans were elated to hear the official news. Some even took to social media to rave about the song.

Del Rey’s fans also poked fun at the artist, particularly the long title of Del Rey’s new album.

In an Instagram post, Del Rey wrote to her followers and expressed her feelings on the release of “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.”

“What can I say! I’m so grateful to be present and feeling effervescent today. With a mind full of violets and a forehead warmed by the sun as I pray in the garden,” Del Rey wrote in a typewritten letter.

She then continued to thank her friends and all the artists she collaborated with, including Hermosa, Jack Antonoff, Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, and Benji, as well as her fans for listening to her music.

“Thank you to you guys for listening! The music is for fun and for me and not always free unless you’re streaming ha — but spirited with the best of intentions,” she stated.

“Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd” follows her contribution to “Snow On The Beach,” one of the tracks from Taylor Swift’s Midnights, and the release of Del Rey’s eighth studio album, “Blue Bannisters,” in 2021.

Before the official album announcement, it can be recalled that last October, Del Rey took to Instagram to inform her fans that the devices containing her new music and a manuscript were stolen when someone broke into her car.

“I had to remotely wipe the computer that had my 200-page book for Simon and Schuster—which I hadn’t backed up on the cloud. […] And despite that, people are still able to remotely access my phone and leak our songs and personal photos,” she said.

Despite the challenges she faced, Del Rey told her fans she was “confident in the record to come.”

“I just want to mention that despite all of this happening, I am confident in the record to come—despite so many safety factors on so many different levels,” the “Summertime Sadness” singer continued. “I really want to persist and make the best art I can.”

“Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd” is slated to be released in streaming services on March 10, 2023.
