By now anyone that’s on any social media platform or casually browsing the Internet has heard the news of Leonardo Dicaprio’s recent split with his ex-girlfriend Camilla Morrone. Of course, people on social media did not miss the opportunity to make a frenzy of memes, jokes, and speculations about this odd little thing about the Titanic star.
Leo did what everyone had been expecting–as with all of his previous relationships, Leo seems to have a difficult time dating anyone past the age of 25, and many on the internet have tried to make sense of this pattern.
Although celebrities dating with a considerable age gap is not exactly new or rare, after closer observation there seems to be an interesting trend in how some male Hollywood celebrities tend to date younger women.
Could it be that these women remind these men of their career peak? Let’s look at the pattern:
Jake Gyllenhaal, for example, began dating Taylor Swift when she was 19, and his current girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu when she was 22, both falling around the age when Jake was at the height of his career.
Jim Carrey rose to fame when he was 33-35 years old, and we can see, based from publicly available information, that he began dating his most recent ex-girlfriend when she was 36. Al Pacino reached the heights of his fame for his role in the Godfather when he was 32. At the age of 82, he is currently dating Noor Alfallah, a 28-year-old film producer.
Another similar example is one of the most recent celebrity breakups over the Internet. Zach Braff starred in the sitcom Scrubs, which gained its highest popularity in season 2 in 2003, which would have made Zach Braff 28 years old at the time. He began dating Florence Pugh at the age of 23, and parted ways early 2022 when she was 26, still falling into the same age bracket he was when he was at the height of his popularity.
Leo also falls into this same trend, having done the Titanic at the age of 23 one of his most prominent and iconic works, from there all his subsequent partners have never been older than 25 years old.
It even inspired a Reddit user to create a graph that charted the age of all his past girlfriends in chronological order, showing definitive data that Leo had a max age limit of 25 years, with his girlfriends’ age averaging about 22.9 years despite his growing age.
It seems that these male celebrities, whether subconsciously or intentionally, tend to date women who reminded them of the highest point of their careers, the peak of their fame, or the breakout roles that propelled them to new heights of stardom.
The signs are just too hard to ignore.
