In-game Minecraft tribute for Technoblade amasses nearly 400k messages

Technoblade, a Minecraft Youtuber with over 13.6 million subscribers (as of writing), died last week at the age of 23 after a long battle with cancer.

In one final video uploaded to his channel, titled “so long nerds”, the YouTuber’s father gave fans a closing message that Technoblade himself had written a few hours before he died. He said that he’d been blessed to have his fans throughout the entire years playing Minecraft. He also revealed that he had been pranking fans the whole time because his real name wasn’t Dave, it was Alex.

His death was a heartbreaking loss for the family, colleagues, and fans. Even though it was publicly known he had been battling cancer, Technoblade’s influence remained intact. And as a tribute, Minecraft server Hypixel added an in-game memorial to the Java Edition launcher honoring Technoblades’ triumph in the game series.

Technoblade was well-known in the Minecraft community, having run his YouTube channel for nearly ten years. After his passing, a monument was created in-game, where fans can pay tribute to the late YouTuber and leave messages for him. Hypixel, a well-known Minecraft server closely associated with Technoblade, developed the monument, where players and fans can visit the memorial and write a message for Technoblade and his family in the servers’ main lobby, which will all be compiled in a digital book.

However, actually printing out all the messages to give to Technoblade’s family might not be so simple, because around 377,000 fans left messages on the in-game memorial. Hypixel Studios CEO Noxy said that to print all of those messages, it would take around 200 250-page A4-sized books. This doesn’t seem like an issue for Noxy, though, as the CEO went on to say, “Not a complaint btw, I think this an amazing thing and an incredible testament to his legacy.” He even joked that this was Technoblade’s “final prank on Hypixel.”

On a serious note, fans and players have until the end of July to write a message and be part of the memorial book for Technoblade on the server.
