Whisper of the Heart is a story about childhood sweethearts, Shizuku Tsukishima and Seiji Amasawa, who fall in love and help each other develop and figure out their respective passion. Even though pursuing their passion would mean they would be away from each other, they risked and promised to be married to each other someday.

The trailer reveals that the sequel will take place ten years from the day they promised each other and separate their ways to pursue their passions. The trailer also shows how these young lovers keep in touch through the years.

Shizuku and Seiji will be played by Japanese actors Nana Seino and Tori Matsuzaka.

Aside from the Whisper of the Heart live-action sequel, Ghibli fans have much to look forward to. The Studio Ghibli theme park in Japan will be opening in November, and a graphic novel by Hayo Miyazaki, Shuna’s Journey, is finally getting translated into English almost 40 years since its release. If you’re a fan of Spirited Away, you also have something to look forward to as the live-action stage play is set to stream online in July. /TV
