A new ‘Witcher’ game saga is in the works with a different game engine

CD Projekt Red has recently announced that a new installment for The Witcher video games is in development and that it will kick off a new saga for that franchise.

CDPR also announced that they would be moving from their in-house REDengine to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5, which will begin a 15-year partnership between the two video game companies. They will collaborate with Epic Games in creating a better video game engine for open-world genres throughout those future 15 years.

This is a good move on CDPR’s part – Unreal Engine is not only one of the most popular engines with previous versions used on hundreds of games, its latest version has also proven to be a huge advancement in game engines as a whole. Unreal Engine 5 has much-improved grafting geometry, better details and graphics, more accurate lighting, and improved character animations.

CDPR’s REDengine was used for The Witcher 3 as well as Cyberpunk 2077. While The Witcher 3 received praise, Cyberpunk received major criticism for numerous bugs and glitches in graphics, AI, and gameplay, especially during its initial release.

Despite all this, CDPR has said that REDengine will still be utilized for a major upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion.

Additionally, despite initial worries from fans stating that the future Witcher Saga might be an Epic Exclusive, CDPR has said the game will be released on different platforms.
