On Sunday, March 12, the Sinag Maynila Film Festival will finally reveal its top picks for this season at the Gabi ng Parangal in Samsung Hall, SM Aura. The finalists for Full Length includes KRISTO by HF Yambao, BEYOND THE BLOCK by Ricardo Carranza, LADYFISH by Jason Orfalas, BHOY INSTIK by Joel Lamangan TU PUG IMATUY (The Right to Kill) by Arbi Barbarona—all of which have strong, key messages that reflect our culture and society.

Sinag Maynila will close its awards night with a special screening of the Walking Street, a Korean film directed by Lee Sang Woo. The film marks a new development in director Lee Sang-woo’s works, exploring the tensions and tenderness of familial bonds and romance with a raw, yet impressionistic cinematic quality.

Walking Street is about three Korean misfits that find themselves in Pattaya in search of a home within a ruthless world. After Tae-gi brashly commits a crime, his mute brother Teae-sung escapes with him to Pattaya, a foreign land where they live moment by moment. They stumble upon Jee-na, a Korean prostitute exploited by her own mother, stuck in a land where every business transaction is against her will. The brothers fall in love with her, leading to a love triangle that will threaten the bond between them.

The film stars Korean heartthrob Baek Sung-hyun (Teae-sung), Lee Si-Kang (Tae-gi), Lee Song-Lee (Jee-na), and Yoo Ji-su.

The 2017 Sinag Maynila Film Festival runs until March 14 in SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, Glorietta, and Gateway. This year’s categories also includes the Short Film and Documentary.
