The ‘Hogwarts Mystery’ mobile game is finally here and bloody hell, it’s brilliant

The long wait is over! Us muggles can now receive our Hogwarts letter and experience being a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Pottermore announced on Wednesday the official launch of the new mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and as Potterheads, we downloaded the game as fast as a flying golden snitch!

Created by Los Angeles-based mobile games studio Jam City, and Portkey Games, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is the first mobile game in which players can create their own characters and experience becoming a Hogwarts student.

According to Pottermore, “Portkey Games offers players the opportunity to make their own narrative choices and engage with the wizarding world setting to create new and unique experiences.”

Some of the characters we love from the Harry Potter films have also returned to lend their voices to the game. Dame Maggie Smith reprises her role as Professor McGonagall, while Michael Gambon returns as Professor Dumbledore. Gemma Jones is back as Madam Pomfrey, Sally Mortemore as Madam Pince, Zoe Wanamaker as Madam Hooch, and Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick.

“Being involved in the making of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery mobile game will give great pleasure to my grandchildren,” Maggie Smith said.

Hogwarts Mystery allows players to customize their character’s looks, name, and personalities. Harry Potter might not be there but you’ll have your own version of Ron Weasley or Hermione Granger.

You will receive your Hogwarts letter — and as tradition, you will be sorted into four different houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw.

Apparently, everything in the game happens years before Harry Potter enters Hogwarts. “Hogwarts Mystery is set in a different time period for players to create their own alternative Wizarding World timeline, the 1980s,” Pottermore says.

Throughout the game, players will be able to attend Charms, Potions, and Quiditch classes. You can also visit your house’s common room and Pottermore says that we can now all have a proper look at Hufflefuff’s!

Attending Professor Flitwick’s Charms classes will help you learn and practice your spells.

Meanwhile, Professor Snape is being his usual self even in this game and he won’t be fond of your character too! You’ll be able to learn how to mix ingredients and brew your potions in his class.

But it wouldn’t be called “Hogwarts Mystery” without a mysterious backstory for your character and a Slytherin character trying to sabotage you in every way possible. This should be fun!
