The UP Sigma Alpha Sorority – Baños Chapter wrapped up this year’s Project Shoebox, with the theme: “Power to the Period: Advocating Menstrual Equity,” an outreach program that aims to provide essential sanitary and hygiene products to menstruators in need through various fundraising activities last December 18, 2021.
They partnered with We Bleed Red Movement PH in reaching out to communities that need more access to basic menstrual and hygiene products by giving 100 boxes containing sanitary napkins, soap, alcohol, tissue rolls, face masks, shampoo, and toothpaste.
Embarrassment or taboos may hinder people from speaking up for themselves, but if that stigma is lifted — the sorority believes that we can move forward as a society to fulfill the needs of half of our population. Because when half of the population suffers financial and physical hardship as a result of the reproductive cycle required to guarantee human survival, there is no equality.
The UP Sigma Alpha Sorority – Baños Chapter would like to thank all the organizations, advocates, and individuals who made this project possible. Because, coalitions of advocates, each producing even the tiniest ripple in their daily lives, have the capacity to cause seismic shifts.
