Tune in for the premiere of DrawINK Convention

DrawINK, the premier comic book organization of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is hosting an online event entitled “DrawINK Convention”.

DrawINK Convention, or DrawINK Con for short, is an opportunity to be introduced to the Philippines’ local comics community, a space where viewers can socialize and connect with local comic creators and learn about who they are and how Filipino comics are made, and a place to understand and hopefully be inspired by the insights and potential opportunities from what these speakers have to offer.

DrawINK Convention

DrawINK’s founders were inspired by a shared passion for Filipino comics to expand and diversify the definition of being an artist in Benilde, and as an extension, the country. This opens up an avenue for Benildean artists to express their creative ideas by creating compelling stories for people to embrace the Filipino culture. To recognize the hard work and creativity of DrawINK’s own artists, the organization has opened this online event to the whole of the Benildean community! DrawINK Con will feature big-name komikeros such as Carlo Vergara, Lyndon Gregorio, and Mel Casipit and more!

DrawINK was originally founded by Paolo James Cruz, Vancris Balanon, CJ Catapang, and Benz Golin in  2019. The initial plan was to build a community where people could socialize and celebrate a shared love for comics and other fandoms, while at the same time, learning about how to write, design, and publish their own comics. Through those shared interests, DrawINK would go on to not only produce their own creator-owned series of books, but also connect with established comic figureheads both locally and internationally, such as Komiket President Paolo Herras and American comic creators Mike Wellman and Rafael Navarro of Atomic Basement Comics. These pursuits helped the organization in broadening the horizon on what it means to be a Benildean comics organization as well as a Filipino graphic writer and artist.

DrawINK cannot wait for the comics community, particularly aspiring comic writers and artists to witness the inspiring works and creations of their passionate members. Every illustration and story detail is carefully crafted with love and care, with the intention of inspiring others to follow their dreams and passions in return. They hope that DrawINK Con can not only inspire the community, but also motivate others to overcome the obstacles that they may be facing in their artistic pursuits, and at the same time, create and appreciate all that is showcased. Now, until further beyond.
