6 months after its original release, indie band Devices and producer/DJ, lui., are pairing up to release Setup and Punchline (lui. remix) on April 23, 2021.
Displaying the up-and-coming producer’s flair and talent, the remix is lui.’s vision brought to life. This new rendition, sonically and creatively conceptualized, brings lui’s artistry in full bloom while keeping the new wave-inspired romps’s emotional impact and highlighting the band’s sound in brand new ways.
Setup and Punchline is revitalized and flipped over its head with an italo disco style groove and dancey beat, reminiscent of the unforgettable evenings of the world we once knew. Although those kinds of nights may still be lightyears away, lui. gives us a comforting piece of a moment in time missed by many through this track.
This release opens the pairing to more collaborations in the future, with the partnership intent on creating more tracks as Devices’ highly anticipated album is eventually released.
“Well I guess I just really wanted to try remixing bands. I was at that headspace where I was listening to a lot of remixes of songs lalo na (especially) the Dua Lipa Remix Album and just edits of old songs so I wanted to do something similar. And wala (nothing) I love Devices so I wanted to see what I could do to one of their songs. I also just finished my remix for She’s Only Sixteen so I wanted to do one with a band I grew up with or basically a band I have a close relation with so I just hit them up” says producer/DJ lui.. “I just wanna try remixing more local songs as well, so hopefully we’ll get to do more. I just really wanted to reinterpret how I would make the song. I don’t like using genres but I guess my influences were really dream house, italo disco, disco; just something dancey!”

were finally able to make it happen. He asked for our stems and we were really happy to oblige really. So if people want to do more remixes of our songs, give us a message and we’ll see what we can do. It’s amazing what he did and how he reimagined it. More songs mean more remixes for sure and we’re working on a project like that which can coincide with the album release.”
