The Badass from Mad Max, Furiosa, will be making a return in her own standalone movie in 2023.

George Miller, the director of the famous Mad Max series, held a press conference to announce that ‘Furiosa’ will start production around next year. Although the release is still gonna be a ways away, this film is definitely something you should be looking forward to.

Unlike ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ which took place over the matter of a few days, ‘Furiosa’ is set to span over a number of years. The film is slated to be Australia’s biggest production yet, making hundreds of jobs and bringing as much as 350 million dollars into the country’s economy.

Not only is this film featuring the series’ famous writer and producer George Miller, but it features a star studded cast as well. The film will focus on a younger Furiosa to be played by ‘Queen’s Gambit’ star, Anya Taylor-Joy – it is unclear whether we’ll see the original actor Charlize Theron or not since Miller was a bit tight lipped on the details.

Of course it wouldn’t be Australia’s biggest production ever if it didn’t have one of its most recognizable stars, Thor aka Chris Hemsworth himself. The superhero is currently filming ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ in Australia, but isn’t passing up on this opportunity to star in a Mad Max film.

He described the chance to be in a Mad Max film as the “biggest pinch-myself moment.” He added, “It is a huge honor. A lot of pressure, but exciting pressure that is certainly motivating.”

Furiosa is currently set for release in theaters on June 23, 2023.
