The University of the Philippines Association of Chemistry Majors and Enthusiasts (UP ACME) will be holding the “7th HSM: Hanep sa Science at Math” on May 22, 2021 via Zoom & Facebook Live. Previously an inter-school Science and Math quiz bee, this year’s HSM will be an online scientific writing symposium and competition open to all junior high and senior high school students, as well as out-of-school youth ages 13-19 years old nationwide.
Targeting over 180 participants from all over the country, the event aims to promote the appreciation of natural sciences among the youth, enhance their scientific writing skills, establish the importance of effective communication of scientific information and advocate for scientific practice in the Philippines.
The first part of the event will be dedicated to a scientific writing symposium, and the second part marks the beginning of the asynchronous writing competition. HSM will also be giving away up to Php 7,000 worth of cash prizes and giveaways from sponsors to the winning teams. UP ACME hopes that HSM: Hanep sa Science at Math serves as a way to encourage the youth towards academic competence, engender their passion for sciences, and motivate them to become future contributing members of the scientific community.
