Charli D’Amelio mistakes #HereForCharli was for her

TikTok influencer Charli D’Amelio recently deleted a tweet thanking her fans after mistakenly assuming that a trending hashtag was about her.

#HereForCharli was started by Charli XCX fans when news came out that SOPHIE, a frequent collaborator and longtime friend of the artist, had passed away. How unfortunate that the pop star and TikToker just happened to share the same first name. D’Amelio falsely took that the hashtag was meant for her. Now everyone seems to be getting second hand embarrassment for this mishap.

SOPHIE, a critically-acclaimed producer had passed away over the weekend. She was known to be a close friend of Charli XCX, having worked with each other on previous records and often performing together. One of their most notable collaborations was Charli’s ‘Out of My Head‘.

Following the tragic news, many other artists had paid tribute to SOPHIE on social media. But Charli XCX was only able to post a statement just recently. With such a strong connection, there is not doubt that SOPHIE’s passing has been especially difficult for her.

With her death being an extremely hard loss, fans wanted to extend their support for Charli XCX through the hashtag. So it’s understandable that people were frustrated when D’Amelio had taken it for herself.

However, D’Amelio shouldn’t solely be blamed for the mix up. Her fans had piggy backed off the trending hashtag and tagged the TikTok star in their tweets. The 16-year-old internet personality has since then deleted her original tweet after people clarified that #HereForCharli wasn’t actually for her.

While it may have been an honest mistake, it’s definitely a lesson learned for D’Amelio that sometimes not everything is about her.
