The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) is offering people the chance to see some of the country’s most stunning national parks, as well as their inhabitants, namely leopards and elephants, free of charge and from the comfort of their couches. These streaming events will offer a virtual alternative for nature lovers and adventurers looking for a walk on the wild side while grounded due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The initiative aims to take web users on a virtual voyage, taking in Sri Lanka’s national parks with various online sessions scheduled from Nov. 4 to 13. Users will need to sign up in advance to take part in the virtual tours, which will also feature expertise from wild animal specialists, on hand to share their knowledge. The series, dubbed “Go on a Couch Safari,” will showcase the beauty of the country’s national parks, such as Yala (978 square kilometers) and Udawalawe (308 sq km), which are usually tourist hotspots.
The eight live sessions, running until Nov. 13, will take participants on a voyage of discovery, immersing them in the rich flora and fauna of the country. If the pandemic continues, other similar initiatives could follow suit, again promoting Sri Lanka’s many assets.
