Funny video about Filipino nurses sparks wholesome sharing from grateful patients online

One video that’s going around the internet today has been made into a delightful avenue for people to share their experiences with Filipino nurses.

Travel nurse and content creator Lindsey Shelton, also known as ScrubHacks, posted a funny situational TikTok video about a hyper-specific scenario of a nurse screaming in anguish, with an inset text that reads, “Walking into the ‘Best Nurse’ competition just to see a 4’11 Filipina.”

People seemed to enjoy the video and took to the comments to share their experiences about being taken good care of by Filipino nurses, as well as commending their work ethic.

A Facebook user wrote, “When I studied abroad in the Philippines while in nursing school, we learned with other Filipina nursing students our age- they told us before they could graduate, they had to deliver so many babies, had to assist with 5 major surgeries, and 10 minor surgeries, among other skills that were wayyy beyond what we were learning even in our top-rated nursing school back home. These young ladies were BEYOND talented and smart, and they had learned these skills with a MUCH less advanced medical/surgical system than we have here in US. That’s how you know someone is good at their job: performing these impressive skills on such limited resources. I’ll never forget these amazing young ladies I learned with, and most importantly learned FROM. Would gladly take a 4’11” Filipina nurse as my nurse anyyyyy day.”

“I was in the hospital for 12 days and my last night was the eve of my birthday. At midnight my Filipina nurse came in with a balloon and sang me happy birthday,” wrote a second user.

A third user wrote, “When my grandma was at [the] end of life, her Filipina nurse was the best one imo. She read my nana’s cues correctly and responded immediately. She was tuned in. And she spoke to us like family. ”
