‘He tricked me’: James Reid exposes alleged million-peso fraud by former partner Jeffrey Oh

Actor and musician James Reid disclosed in an interview that he had parted ways with Jeffrey Oh in handling his label, Careless Music, alleging a million-peso swindle.

Reid gave unsettling information about Oh in the interview with Ogie Diaz, saying that he “tricked” him and owed him more than P100 million, along with other debts connected to several enterprises.

The singer, visibly shocked, expressed his disbelief at the lack of transparency in their working relationship. “Oh, nothing’s happening; I’ll let you know,” he said, highlighting the surprise he felt upon learning about several business transactions.

“I had no idea much of this was happening,” he added, his voice tinged with disappointment.

Reid was accompanied throughout the interview by attorney Rodel de Guzman, who shared that he hired him to audit the company’s dealings because he was worried about the repercussions.

Moreover, according to their story, the incident worsened when the Bureau of Immigration detained Jeffrey Oh because of problems with his work permits and legal documentation in the Philippines.

“In August 2023, we began to uncover audit findings and explained them in front of Jeffrey Oh,” de Guzman said. Later, it was disclosed that Oh did not have the required paperwork to lawfully work in the nation, raising serious doubts about the company’s viability.

De Guzman, in a serious tone, suggested that Reid formally cease his contact with Oh after their talks to protect the agency’s interests, as James Reid is the sole registered proprietor of Careless.

Moreover, the attorney clarified, “Careless only has one registered owner, James Reid. Any issues involving the company would ultimately implicate him.”

Reid felt duped even after receiving this counsel, as Oh fled before the termination procedure could be completed. He said that after all his issues were revealed, the official recommendation was to fire him. Still, he left, “he tricked me,” Reid said, expressing dissatisfaction following years of working together.

As of July 2, 2024, Careless Music officially terminated Jeffrey Oh’s ties with the company.

Jeffrey Oh’s relationship with Careless Music officially ended on July 2, 2024, as declared by the company. As stated in the public notice, he no longer has the authority to sign documents or handle money on behalf of the Careless Group.

This issue has brought to light grave financial disparities, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of openness and trust in corporate partnerships.

Regardless of everything that happened, Reid is still hoping for the best and revealed that he has plans on coming back to acting soon.

“It’s a very learning experience,” he said.
