Shiloh Jolie drops father’s last name due to ‘painful events’

Shiloh, the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has dropped her father’s surname after experiencing “painful events”.

Right after her 18th birthday last May, she filed the name change from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.

The filing was announced with a legal notice in The Los Angeles Times.

In a statement, her attorney, Peter Levine, discussed her decision and emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, especially when it concerns a young adult making a significant choice.

“The media should be more careful in their reporting, especially when covering a young adult who has made an independent and significant decision following painful events, and is merely following legal process,” he stated

Levine also made huge emphasis that Shiloh did not take out an advertisement to make the announcement.

“Shiloh Jolie did not take out an ‘ad’ announcing any name change, and any press reporting that is inaccurate,” he further elaborated.

“As Shiloh’s attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because the law in California requires that of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as is required,” as stated by her attorney.

Shiloh has not stated her reasons for dropping Pitt from her surname. There would be a hearing regarding the name change that is set to take place on July 29.

She is not the only Jolie-Pitt child to make this change. Before her decision to change her name, her siblings, Vivienne and Zahara, had already dropped Pitt’s last name. Zahara made the change during her induction into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Spelman College in Atlanta last November.

Besides Shiloh, Angelina and Brad are parents to Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
