In a heartwarming revelation, acclaimed director Bobot Mortiz recently disclosed an inspiring act of generosity by Filipina actress Kathryn Bernardo. The esteemed actress, known for her stellar performances, particularly in the hit show ‘Goin’ Bulilit,’ was celebrated during her contract renewal with ABS-CBN Star Magic.
Director Bobot expressed his astonishment, recounting an encounter with a mother from the ‘Goin’ Bulilit’ cast who unveiled Kathryn’s behind-the-scenes benevolence. It was revealed that when a fellow castmate faced financial challenges after their father’s untimely demise, Kathryn Bernardo stepped in to support and ensure the continuation of the castmate’s education.
“Ang hindi ko alam na ginagawa pala ni Kathryn na natuwa ako, nakita ko yung isang nanay ng isang Bulilit tapos kinwento niya sa’kin, nung namatay yung tatay ng Bulilit na ito, ang nagpaaral na sa kanya ay si Kathryn [What I didn’t know that Kathryn did that made me happy, I saw one of the mothers of a child from “Bulilit” and she told me that when this child’s father died, Kathryn was the one who paid for their education],” Director Bobot Mortiz shared, expressing his delight at Kathryn’s enduring commitment to her former colleagues. “Tuwang-tuwa ako na ‘di pala siya nakalimot sa mga nakasama niya. Proud na proud ako kay Kathryn [I’m so delighted that she didn’t forget about those she was with before. I’m very proud of Kathryn],” he added.
In an exclusive interview, Kathryn Bernardo shed light on the circumstances surrounding her act of kindness. Recounting her connection with the castmate’s family, she explained, “During that time, the dad, naging kaibigan namin ni mama ‘yun. Sila ‘yung sabay [kami] kakain sa Goin’ Bulilit. And then, for a time, parang nag-stop na mag-artista yung tao na ‘to. I won’t name him na. Nag-stop siya mag-artista, then naka-receive kami ng message from the mom na ito ‘yung nangyari sa dad [The dad became a friend of mine and my mom’s. We used to eat together. And then, for a time, it seemed like this person stopped being an actor. I won’t name him. He stopped acting, and then we received a message from the mom saying, ‘This is what happened to the dad’].”
Understanding the significance of education and driven by a desire to support a dedicated individual, Kathryn made a promise with her mother to assist in fulfilling the castmate’s educational aspirations. “Bilang nakasama mo, syempre tutulong ka hangga’t kaya mo, so ‘yun ‘yung pinromise namin ni mama sa dad niya na tutulungan ka namin kasi isa ‘yun sa dreams ng dad niya sa kanya na makatapos ng college because he’s so smart, and alam mo rin ‘yung mga tao na masarap tulungan kasi masipag [Of course, you’ll help as much as you can, so that’s the promise my mom and I made to his dad, that we’ll help you because it’s one of her dad’s dreams for him to finish college because he’s so smart. And you also know that’s the kind of person who’s worth helping because he’s hardworking].” she shared.
Kathryn Bernardo’s compassion extends beyond the silver screen, exemplifying the true essence of camaraderie and solidarity within the entertainment industry. As she embarks on her latest project, the upcoming movie titled “Elena 1944,” set during the Japanese occupation, fans and colleagues celebrate her acting prowess and her genuine kindness that leaves an indelible mark on those she encounters.
