Touring from one country to another, BLACKPINK’s “Born Pink” World Tour has been keeping the girl group busy. To date, their ongoing tour is their last official activity under their long-time agency, YG Entertainment, as their current contracts expire on August 8. The K-Pop industry is in a buzz.
Everyone is waiting if the girls will be staying with YG Entertainment, especially with the agency preparing for a new girl group’s debut, BABYMONSTER— a scenario that seems familiar to many fans.
When BLACKPINK debuted in 2016, their seniors 2NE1 no longer had a contract renewal with YG Entertainment. They released their final album, “CRUSH,” in 2014 before going into a two-year hiatus and then announcing their formal disbandment.
2NE1 was among the iconic K-Pop groups at that time, paving the way for the K-Pop industry to be known across the globe. The group debuted in 2009 and quickly gained attention for its music style, performances, vocals, and visuals. Their hits include their debut single, “Fire,” “I Don’t Care,” and “Come Back Home,” to name a few.
Despite all the success 2NE1 brought, their time had to come to an end to start BLACKPINK’s. Does BLACKPINK have to end for BABYMONSTER to start theirs?
2NE1 and BLACKPINK both established their names in the K-Pop industry, achieving numerous significant successes in their generations. Both girl groups hold great influence and impact having been globally recognized. Given all these similarities, many fans now wonder if they will end up the same.
The four-woman girl group, Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo have all started their solo careers, each having their singles. Jennie and Jisoo already ventured into acting. Jennie was part of the controversial HBO series, “The Idol,” starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd. Jisoo, on the other hand, played the lead in the series, “Snowdrop,” alongside Jung Hae In.
While we hope for the best for the girls, the question remains: Will history repeat itself? Is BLACKPINK going to have the same fate as 2NE1?
