Bebe Rexha gets three stitches on the face after an audience member throws a phone at her during her concert

American singer and songwriter Bleta Rexha, known professionally as Bebe Rexha, was taken to the hospital after a concertgoer threw a phone at her while she was performing at Pier 17 in New York City, said the statement by the New York Police Department via USA TODAY.

In a video shared by a concertgoer, Rexha was seen hit by a phone in her face, making the singer put her hand on her face before dropping to her knees while the crew rushed towards her.

The man who threw the phone was identified as Nicolas Malvagna, a 27-year-old man from New Jersey.

Malvagna has then been arrested and was reportedly charged with two counts of assault in the third degree, one count of harassment in the second degree, one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree, and one count of attempted assault in the third degree – and was later upgraded to a felony as he used the phone as a weapon.

According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Malvagna confessed that he was trying to see if he could hit the singer with the phone at the end of the show because “it would be funny.”

Rexha had to have three stitches to close her wound but was fortunately fine after the incident.

The 33-year-old singer updated her fans through Instagram with a photo of her showing her wound with the caption “I’m good,” while doing a thumbs-up.

The performance that was cut short due to the incident was during her ongoing tour, “Best F’n Night of My Life Tour,” and was supposed to continue with five more concerts in Philadelphia, Washington DC, Atlanta, Orlando, and Houston.

Rexha became prominent with 2015 single “Me, Myself & I” with American rapper G-Eazy, and her collaboration with Dutch DJ and music producer Martin Garrix with the single “In the Name of Love” in 2016. She was also featured in the 2015 hit song “Hey Mama” by French record producer David Guetta alongside Nicki Minaj and Afrojack.
