An Indiana man who was accused of stalking American singer Taylor Swift was arrested on various felony charges after showing up at Swift’s residence in Nashville, Tennessee.
According to documents obtained by WGNT-TV, the investigation for the case began on March 25 after the accused stalker, Mitchell Taebel, allegedly sent photos of weapons through social media to members of Swift’s management company threatening to “destroy them.”
On March 30, he was accused of leaving a message to Swift’s father saying he is her “soulmate” and “he is the only one that can make her secure.”
On April 5, Taebel allegedly sent a threat made through a fake Instagram account to a dancer on the singer’s tour. He also posted a photo of someone firing a gun and said, “If today there is the sexual performance of Vigilant sh*t, you can be sure that we will destroy you and all the other dancers and [Swift] too, I think you know what happened to Joe Alwyn.”
Taebel also contacted different governor’s offices in various states stating that his presidential campaign will be part of the singer’s tour. He also contacted Swift’s management company again and said that he needs to meet the singer and he would “wear a bomb on his chest.”
Throughout April, he allegedly posted threatening videos aimed at Swift with one of the captions stating that she “deserves to be shot.”
The day before Swift’s Nashville show on May 6, Taebel showed up at Swift’s penthouse in Nashville by sneaking in through an unsecured door – police officials were called but he left before they arrived.
Despite being on the “security threat/concern list,” Taebel was able to get in during the concert through a ticket he purchased from a third party. In the venue, he was recognized by security and questioned about his actions, prompting him to leave the venue.
Taebel posted on Instagram on the same day admitting he went to Swift’s residence, “I went to [Swift’s] apartment complex and anybody in my opinion that thinks it is illegal in any way to go to somebody’s apartment to see if they want to meet should be killed. They should die of a heart attack on a spot,” he allegedly said. “she had no idea a white man would come in there and talk to like I did.”
Swift’s management company was granted a temporary restraining order against Taebel on May 11 which was extended after Taebel posted multiple videos against them.
Taebel was charged with stalking by threatening serious injury or death, intimidation, invasion of privacy, and harassment on May 31 in Indiana, and was arrested on June 2.
He is scheduled for a court hearing on July 27 where is appointed a public defender.
