In April, we got our first look at Thor: Love and Thunder with a short teaser. This time, we’re getting a complete peek at the latest movie in the MCU with an official trailer. There are familiar faces – our favorite space Viking Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who can now wield the Mjolnir. There are also some surprising new faces like Zeus (Russell Crowe) and our main antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher, played by the seasoned and proven method actor, Christian Bale.
The official trailer gives us a glimpse of Thor’s new journey after the events of Avengers: Endgame. He gets in shape, reunites with his ex-girlfriend Jane after “Eight years, seven months, and six days” of separation, and now has to face a new villain in Gorr the God Butcher. Christian Bale is almost unrecognizable as Gorr, who thinks that “All gods must die” and seems determined to carry out that philosophy.
Although Gorr is not exactly comic accurate in terms of looks, it would be interesting to see Christian Bale’s take on the character. Bale has proven himself to be an actor who can terrify people on screen, especially with the 2000 cult classic movie American Psycho where he plays Patrick Bateman, a bat-sh*t insane murderous psychopath.
Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth installment in the Thor franchise and is the second MCU movie directed by the critically-acclaimed director Taika Waititi. Many people credit Waititi as the man who turned the franchise around when Marvel tasked him to direct the previous movie in the series, Thor: Ragnarok. He turned the tone of Thor movies from serious and boringly melodramatic to comedic but heartfelt, which many critics have adored. We’re excited to see how he puts his comedic imprint in this upcoming movie.
