Longest-running kids’ animated series ‘Arthur’ ends after 25 seasons

After being on the air for 25 years, the beloved animated kids’ show Arthur has come to an end. The show had an astounding 25 seasons of content and episodes that brought joy to many kids across the globe.

The show stars an 8-year old Aardvark named Arthur and his other animal friends and family and is based on the popular book series of the same name by Marc Brown.

According the show’s executive producer Carol Greenwald, reruns of Arthur will continue to be available on PBS Kids.

Back in July 2021, screenwriter Kathy Waugh shared the fact that Arthur was coming to a close on the podcast called ‘Finding DW.’ She says, “Arthur is no longer in production. We had our wrap party two years ago. I think [PBS] made a mistake, and I think Arthur should come back and I know I’m not alone in thinking they made a mistake.”

She continues by saying that she felt like the show was never going to end. Unfortunately, it was her choice to end the series – but all good things do come to an end. The last episode already aired a few days ago, and fans went to Twitter to express their emotions.

The final episode of Arthur gave us a glimpse of the main cast of characters as grownups. We see that Arthur has become a graphic novelist, Buster works as a teacher, and Francine is involved at a sneaker company. Muffy is now running for mayor, and George owns the Sugar Bowl Cafe. D.W is a police officer, and Binky has become a news reporter.

The final episode even has a guest appearance from Marc Brown, the original author of the Arthur book series the show was based on.

The show first premiered in 1996, and as it ends, let’s cherish the nostalgic vibes it gives us – remembering the times when we would look forward to watching our favorite shows as kids.
