WAD 2021: UAPdepenSA

The United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary – University of Santo Thomas Chapter (UAPSA-UST), the duly-recognized student organization of the United Architects of the Philippines, will be having an event entitled, “WAD 2021: UAPdepenSA” on the 22 ND of OCTOBER 2021 (Friday) through Zoom and Facebook Live from 2:30 PM TO 7:00 PM.

The WAD 2021: UAPdepenSA is a webinar talk show that will be creatively executed to encourage the engagement of architecture students. The event will feature talks on the idea of being prepared and ready as part of architectural self-defense. This project aims to educate the students to defend their designs clearly and completely even when given a time constraint to improve their Architectural Design Proposal presentations. In line with this event, a 2-minute pitching contest will be held after the talk for the students to practice their learnings through this webinar.

The first speaker is Ar. William Ti Jr. and he has progressively applied innovation and the concepts of sustainable planning and urban living all throughout the 18 years in his professional career in architecture. After founding WTA Architecture and Design Studio in 2007, the combination of ambition and passion for the prevalence of an aesthetically-welcoming cityscape is evident in the myriad of projects he has worked on – which include commercial spaces, housing projects, hospitable hotels, residential condominiums, and large-scale master-planned developments. In WTA, he empowers his studio to explore new horizons through design excellence which aims to create social impact through the physical and aesthetical manifestations of design. Ar. William Ti Jr. strives for bold experimentation, the generation of new ideas, and the envisioning of innovation.

The 2nd speaker is Ar. Caryn Paredes-Santillan and she has practiced architecture for more than 20 years. In this time frame, she had already accomplished numerous feats in professional practice. She took her Bachelor’s Degree in the College of Architecture, here in our very own, University of Santo Tomas. Having passion for the craft, she further expanded her studies and went on to pursue both Master’s and Doctoral Degree in Engineering, Major in Architectural Theory and Design at The University of Tokyo in Japan. In her stay there, one of her papers was granted the Wings of Excellence Award all the while, being bestowed a full scholarship by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. Going back to the Philippines, she became a head researcher of MNL Architecture and Interior Design Solutions and had managed to publish numerous researches, projects, and publications. With her holistic background, she became the organizing head of the mASEANa_PH2020+1, a project that aims to unite people to take action on modern architecture in Southeast Asia. At present, she is currently the Pedagogical Lead of the University of Santo Tomas, College of Architecture, to pay forward to the next generation of architects from her Alma Mater.
