WATCH: Dog stolen last June finally reunited with owners

A dog that was stolen last June has reunited with her owners in Ireland after being found by a good Samaritan in the United Kingdom.

Ireland’s National Police Service (An Garda Síochána) began searching for the springer spaniel named Ruby shortly after she went missing, as per its Facebook post on Jan. 11. As part of their effort, they made an appeal in the Garda Southern Region Facebook page but did not have any immediate leads.

Her owners, Bernard and Liz Ahern, had no luck tracking her down as well, since Ruby’s microchip was removed after being taken away, the Cork Beo reported.

Fortunately, an eagle-eyed lady (name withheld) in the U.K. spotted the notice. The woman saw Ruby being sold on a local website and contacted the police.

“With the assistance of Somerset Police, Ruby was recovered and made the some 50 [kilometer] journey via Rosslare back to Midleton in time for Christmas,” the Ireland team said.

The department also shared a video of Ruby’s heartwarming reunion with her family.

Authorities then urged pet owners to “take all extra security precautions and ensure their pets are microchipped.” They also assured that an active investigation into the theft of Ruby is still underway. JB
