‘Die, Inday!’ set for the UPLB stage, promises to send audience home laughing and disturbed

‘Die, Inday!’ is a Filipino adaptation of Jean Genet’s thrilling classic ‘The Maids’ will be staged at the NCAS Auditorium of UP Los Banos on Nov. 13 and Nov. 14, 2019 at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Under the direction of Asst. Prof. Elmer DS Rufo. The play magnifies the socio-economic divide between rich and poor.

‘Die, Inday!’ revolves around two sisters, Soleng and Claire whose sole purpose in their mundane existence is to provide labor for their Madame – a beautiful woman who enjoys a luxurious lifestyle. When their madame is not home, the sisters, tired and ugly from laborious work, conduct roleplaying – one plays Madame and the other the submissive maid. The fantasies vary each time, but the finale is the same – the murder of the mistress. Unable to reach climax, the sisters grow frustrated in their fantasies, could this be the reason they decide to kill their Madame in reality?

‘Die, Inday!’ is a theater production by THEA 102 Theatre Communication students under the BA Communication Arts curriculum of UPLB.
