Ohio couple Sherri and Kevin Butcher were at a store looking for something to wear to the funeral of Kevin’s father when they realized they both did not know how to tie a necktie.
That was when the couple noticed an older man inside the store and decided to ask him for help, as per Sherri’s Facebook post last Sept. 23.
“Kevin and I were shopping for something to wear to his dad’s funeral we both realized neither of us knew how to tie a tie. Kevin noticed an older gentleman nearby and decided to ask if he could help,” said Sherri. “We both thought he might think we were crazy… but we were both so wrong.”

According to Sherri, the man did not hesitate to show Kevin how to tie a necktie and went ahead and placed it around his neck.
“He joked with him about might taking all day to get it right… but he was determined,” she said. “After a few tries of getting the right length… he gently pulled it back over Kevin’s head and thanked HIM for letting him do this!!”
The older man then gave Kevin a hug and empathized with his loss, before telling Sherri to “take good care of him.”
“Kevin and I both walked away quietly as we were both having a hard time fighting back the tears,” she added. “I don’t know this man’s name… but I will never ever forget that heartfelt smile as he thanked us for letting him help!”
The Butchers have since been reunited with the man, who was identified as Howell Hackler, as per Local 12 WKRC-TV on Sept. 25. Hackler also attended the funeral of Kevin’s father, wearing the very same piece of material that connected him with the couple: a necktie. Cody Cepeda /ra
