POP! Exclusive: Lauren Cohan and Scott Foley give us the scoop on ‘Whiskey Cavalier’

Anyone who has ever enjoyed watching a quality television series knows that good storytelling, a well-budgeted production, and a cast of great actors make for an entertaining show. And luckily, for binge-watchers, there’s a new show worth tuning into – Whiskey Cavalier.

Starring The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan and Scandal’s Scott Foley, the series focuses on two opposing government agents, who are forced to work together in a mission to save the world. Filled with kickass characters, action-packed scenes, and numerous comedic quips, Whiskey Cavalier is a show that’ll leave you wanting more.

To help you get even more excited, InqPOP! spoke with the stars of the show themselves, Lauren Cohan and Scott Foley, to give you the inside scoop on this new series.

The show is a perfect blend of action and comedy

Both Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan agreed that what initially drew them into this project was the combination of action and comedy the show presented.

Foley tells InqPOP!, “I was involved with the development of the show from the onset.  We really wanted to do a show that was fun. We missed the light one hours that were so popular in the 80’s – Moonlighting, Remington Steele, Simon, and Simon. And when Bill Lawrence and I met with David Hemingson he had an idea that really captured what we were looking to do.”

Although filming the action scenes don’t come easy, Cohan admits that doing the show required a lot of preparation.

“Rehearsing stunt sequences day in and day out is a big part of our preparation. It definitely keeps us on our toes, prepping for the snappy dialogue and working on fight skills constantly,” she shares.

Both actors, however, agree that it was all worth it in the end.

Viewers will enjoy the cast’s fun dynamic

Foley and Cohan also believe that the cast’s fun dynamic will be another reason why viewers will tune into the show.

“I think people will gravitate towards how much fun the characters have together. They all push each other’s buttons but they are ultimately (maybe unwittingly) fumbling toward a family dynamic.  I like that our characters are all intimidating as spies but hopeless as humans in day-to-day relationships,” Cohan explains.

Frankie and Will are two of the show’s most enjoyable characters

Individually, Cohan’s and Foley’s characters are also something viewers can truly enjoy watching.

On her role as Frankie, Cohan says she enjoyed portraying someone who could be both fearless and snarky at the same time. She explains, “I thought Frankie would be such a fun person to play. She has a lot of the dialogue and characteristics typically given to the ‘tough guy’. She is sarcastic and kick ass but vulnerable underneath it all.”

And during our interview, Foley agrees that Cohan was perfect for Frankie since she was willing to go the extra mile in portraying the character.

“I’d never met Lauren [Cohan] before and had never seen The Walking Dead so I was a little anxious about it.  My only request when we were casting her role was that whomever we cast had to be ‘Game’. Take that how you want, but for me, it meant being willing to try the stunts, to try the comedy, whatever might fall outside of their comfort zone. I knew that the show that we were hoping to make would be challenging for whomever we got but willingness to try was a must,” he expounds.

Scott Foley, on the other hand, plays Will Chase on the show and he hopes that people will gain a new perspective on “action heroes” when they watch his character on the show.

“I have a hard time relating to the conventional action hero – stoic, loner, devoid of emotions. So, this character, one who wears his heart on his sleeve and is in touch with his emotions, is so much more interesting and recognizable.  I hope that’s a way in for the audience [to relate to another kind of action hero],” Foley adds.

Before the interview ended, the two stars of Whiskey Cavalier each shared a message for their Filipino fans. Here’s what they had to say:

“I’m really excited to share the show and to get to know you guys through this whole new genre. I’m having a lot of fun, that’s the most important…and I hope you do too when you see Whiskey Cavalier!” Lauren Cohan exclaims.

“Having lived in Japan and having a brother who is currently living in the Philippines I’ve always felt a connection to the region.  I hope that they’ll tune in to see the locations that we are shooting (all around Europe!) and get hooked by the fun of it all!” Scott Foley affirms.
