What Your Pimples are Trying to Tell You

One of the major sources of stress and frustration, pimples are actually more than just pus-filled sacs of inconvenience. Though most of us attribute acne to clogged pores and hormonal imbalances, there’s actually more to pimples than you may know. More often than not, blemishes can actually indicate underlying health problems that can’t be resolved by pure skin care alone.

Dr. Lee prepping the surgery area on Mike Thomas.

1. Pimples on the Forehead
Zits are bad enough as it is but zits on the forehead just can’t wait to be noticed. Acne formation on this area is actually a symptom of poor digestion and stress. To flush out toxins and improve digestion, professionals recommend getting a good night of sleep, drinking plenty of water, and eating a balanced diet to reduce pimples on the forehead.

2. Pimples on the Cheeks
Breakouts on the cheeks are linked to the respiratory system. As the air in urbanized cities is not as pure as it should be, those who are frequently out and about should make sure to take extra care cleansing the face to remove accumulated dirt on the pores.

3. Pimples on the T-zone
Referring to the area from between the brows down to the nose and chin, the T-zone is also known as ‘the danger triangle of the face.’ Acne breakouts in the T-zone are often caused by gastrointestinal imbalances or food allergens. Since the T-zone has more oil glands than the rest of the face, experts recommend eating more leafy vegetables and reducing consumption of dairy, red meat, and fast food in order to improve T-zone complexion.

4. Pimples on the Chin
Hormonal imbalance is one of the major causes of acne formation on the chin. A regular sleep schedule and healthy diet can help reduce breakouts in this area, but since hormonal imbalances are tougher to address, if symptoms persist- time to visit the dermatologist!

As satisfying as it may be to pop and wipe zits into oblivion, pause and take the time to study and address acne formation not just for healthier skin, but also to improve overall health. For those who need their satisfying fix of pimple popping, just tune in to Dr. Pimple Popper on TLC every Monday at 8:05 PM. The show features the viral sensation Dr. Sandra Lee, also known as Dr. Pimple Popper, treating patients with extreme skin conditions and how it affected their lifestyle and confidence. Take it as a warning, and don’t forget to tune in!

About Dr. Pimple Popper
Dr. Sandra Lee is a dermatological surgeon who has practiced in the Los Angeles area for 15 years. She specializes in, and is renowned nationwide, for removing various lumps and cysts from various parts of her patients’ skin. Angelina has a huge chest lump under her left breast that affects her love life, greatly diminishing her self-confidence and worth. Delano is an ambitious but downtrodden young man with a mysterious, football-sized mass on his back that affects his ability to get a job resulting in recent bouts of homelessness. Carla brings her energetic Southern charm to LA all the way from Mississippi, hoping to get 5 large, painful cysts removed from her scalp. Finally, Brenda has a four-inch protruding forehead lump dangerously close to her left eye. In order to have the courage to leave her house for work, she has to live her life with her hair covering her face. For each case, Dr. Lee use careful discussion and close-up physical examination to diagnose the lump and check for risky signs of cancer or other diseases all the while trying to keep her patients calm and comfortable. Once she makes a plan, it’s time for the doctor and her team of medical assistants to break out the syringes, scalpels, and squirt-protective face masks. Only then can they attempt to remove each lump as completely and safely as they can. Many lumps are familiar and easy to diagnose but the skin’s billions of cells are always producing something new that Dr. Lee has not seen. In the end, all the patients hope she can safely help them return to living normal and healthy lives.
