Steven Spielberg’s ‘Schindler’s List’ is returning to theaters for its 25th anniversary

This December 7, Universal Pictures will be releasing a remastered version of Steven Spielberg’s iconic and award-winning masterpiece “Schindler’s List,” to mark its 25th anniversary.

Last Wednesday, Universal Pictures released a remastered trailer for the film. It will have its picture and sound digitally remastered in 4K for a limited engagement in the United States and Canada.

According to the American film studio, the new version “provides a stunning experience on the big screen, to match the power of the film and its significant themes.”

They also added that it will be re-released internationally in early 2019.

Spielberg said that he was “honored that audiences will be able to experience the journey once again on the big screen.”

“The true stories of the magnitude and tragedy of the Holocaust are ones that must never be forgotten, and the film’s lessons about the critical importance of countering hatred continue to reverberate today,” he added.

In an interview by American magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Spielberg discussed the tagline on the re-release poster: “A story of courage that the world needs now more than ever.”

“When the film initially came out, it made one of the most incomprehensible acts of humankind accessible,” he said.

“It didn’t make it understandable, but reachable to audiences to be able to explore it, to be moved in such a way to want to stand against all hatred, and know it is real and what can shockingly happen in the 20th and 21st centuries if we are not vigilant.”

Before the re-release date, high school students and educators will get the chance to see the remastered version first at free events around North America. These events are being coordinated by the USC Shoah Foundation, which Spielberg founded the year after completing Schindler’s List.

“We are proud to bring the remastered Schindler’s List, one of the most important movies of the 20th century, to a new generation of filmgoers. The lesson that one person – during one of the darkest chapters in humankind’s history – can make a difference is as relevant now as ever before,” said Ron Meyer, vice chairman of NBC Universal.

The film centers on the story of Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who saved the lives of more than 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust.

It won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
