5 Ingenious ways you can reuse and recycle expired makeup products

Makeup users often overlook the shelf life of their beauty products. Mascaras, for instance, expires 6 months after opening. When used longer than that, the product accumulates bacteria which cause skin irritation and acne breakouts. The same thing goes for face powders, lipsticks, and eyeliners when it’s used beyond its expiration date.

So, the question remains, what do we do with our expired makeup items? Do we just throw them away?

The answer is simple — NO. Because contrary to popular belief, there are other ways you can recycle expired beauty products. In fact, here are 5 ways you can reuse these expired items:

Use them for art

Although makeup was initially intended for the face, budding artists can use it as a medium for their artworks. In this video uploaded by YouTube user One Heart, the artist uses foundation, face powder, and lipstick to create a realistic portrait of a girl.

Doing this will not only allow you to get rid of those beauty items but it’ll also challenge your creativity as an artist.

Create customized nail polish

Turn your expired eyeshadows into brand-new colors of nail polish!

To do this, you’ll have to scrape the leftover eyeshadow powder from its casing and mix it with clear nail polish. Your friends will definitely go ‘gaga’ over your nails’ unique shade and design!

Turn face toners into glass cleaners

Many facial toners contain alcohol. And this alcohol content makes it the perfect cleaning agent for glass windows, mirrors, and even mobile screens.

Make repurposed lip balms

If you’ve got lipsticks that have been stored in your dresser for far too long, you might want to consider repurposing them into lip balms.

To do this, you’ll have to reheat your lipstick to kill the bacteria living in it. Then, mix it in with petroleum jelly and wait for it to harden in your new container.

Reuse spoolies

Wash the spoolie attached to your mascara with soap and water and then, reuse it to shape your eyebrows.

Start recycling, fam!
