This two-year-old seems to have an answer to philosophy’s ‘trolley problem’

The trolley problem is known as an introductory lesson in philosophy about moral and ethical dilemmas. The problem is this: A train is running down a track that has five people tied against it. You are in a position to pull a lever that switches the gears of the train, leading it to another track that also has one person tied against that track. Would you pull the lever or not?

Usually, the answer to this question varies, and the problem is meant to provoke certain discussions in philosophy like consequentialist and deontological ethical systems. To some, the quick answer would be to do the least damage and choose to sacrifice the one person. Some would prefer to do nothing, for whatever their reason is, and choose to let the five people get run over.

However, this two-year-old has his own brilliant answer when tested with the problem by his dad E.J. Masicampo (who happens to be a psychology professor, btw):
