Tagaytay Art Beat 3 blends art and music in one perfect cocktail

Museo Orlina and Docdef Productions’ Tagaytay Art Beat 3 has proven that the charm of an arts and music festival does not diminish after one, two or three times it has been staged. On May 19, 2018, Saturday, around a thousand of Art Beat attendees found their way to Museo Orlina in Tagaytay to celebrate art, music and the beauty of both in one extraordinary event.

Johnnie Walker showed their support in the local music and art scene, as well as their love for collaboration by joining the third installment of the annual festival. The world’s #1 Scotch brand celebrated the integration of local art and music by fueling the event with red and black highballs, classic favorites perfect for the less nippy May weather.

Bottles of Johnnie Walker were also given quite a colorful dress-up as Art Beat artists unleashed their creativity by painting on them. These bottles are now part of the yearly exhibit and are still on display at Museo Orlina.

As the party transitioned from dusk to evening, Johnnie Walker was there to accompany the festival goers with their smooth whisky concoctions.

 

Art in Neon and More

Museo Orlina has always been the home of Ramon Orlina’s beautiful glass artwork, but this year’s festival has found a way for attendees to appreciate it using a language they know: selfies. Everyone had the chance to take a photo of themselves and their friends with one of the artist’s masterpieces — the Arcanum, a green gem-like wall installation found on the third level of the museum.

The centerpiece of the event, however, was the work of the young artists specially curated for Tagaytay Art Beat 3 — from the whimsical, to the abstract, to the surreal, and grounded, all types of art was available to feast your eyes on.

The visuals artists showcased were Gab Loste, Jess de Leon, Lee Caces, Kim Pamela Co, Anthony Molina, Dennis Jimenez, Hannah Bundalian, Gab Baez,

Jenny Gernale, Razel Mar, Dennis Bato, Lhean Storm, Mykie Concepcion, Rydel Reib Arayata, and Bea Policarpio. Their works will be available and on display at the Museo Orlina until August 2018.

The works of street artists Jappy Agoncillo, Dee Jae Paeste, and Miggy Antonio were a sight for sore eyes as festival goers marveled at the moment-to-moment experience of seeing their art come to life. Meanwhile, a Davies Paint-sponsored stair art by Kris Abrigo welcomed festival goers on their way to the merchant’s room. Aral Cru, a collective of artists, wowed everyone with a Saucony-sponsored mural whose colors rivaled atmosphere’s glory.

True to this year’s theme, the ground level of the museum was transformed into a neon photo room where everybody had the opportunity to take their Insta-worthy photos of the day.

 

Music in the Amphitheater, Roofdeck

The afternoon opened with a surprise set from Pusakalye who played during the Tagaytay Art Beat 3 Pre-game the night before. Munimuni gave a fresh and exciting start to the festival as well. Kalimba artist Bea Lorenzo, and singer songwriters Max Javelino, and I Belong To The Zoo all gave fresh performances that simmered down the scorching summer heat.

The crew of rap act Uprising gave audiences an intense performance which was shortly complemented by UBE’s bluesy vibes and Oh! Flamingo’s breezy personality when they took the stage.

As the afternoon winded down and the sun set on the Tagaytay view from Museo Orlina, Andrika Lumads and Dayaw roused the audience with their rhythmic and percussive energy that had the crowd on their feet and dancing.

Meanwhile, on deck were DJs Jessica Milner, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, TMACVIBE and mikecons, who all breathed life to the rooftop party with their beats.

The evening was marked by Art Beat first-timer Julianne, TAB2 alum Motherbasss, and contemporary fan favorites Autotelic and Leanne and Naara, while industry giants Mayonnaise, Hale, and The Itchyworms gave the crowd a night to remember as they performed their biggest hits.

Clara Benin sharing the stage with a fan and a touching set with Ben & Ben as the crowd lit up the amphitheater with their cell phone lights were both moments of cinematic delight.  The 21-act festival was bookended by Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus, Reese Lansangan and Tom’s Story giving the night a passionate ending that both the fans and the event deserved.
